Abstract:Pulp refining action is commonly described by one or more quantitative parameters to enable comparisons among refiners and optimization of individual refiners. Specific refining energy and refining intensity are the two most commonly used parameters. Both are energy-based, but recent work by this author has shown that additional parameters based on force are of benefit. This paper reviews the background and key aspects of this work.
